On November 15th, CNR-SPIN Director, Fabio Miletto Granozio, visited the CERN labs in Geneva. During his visit, Fabio had the opportunity to discuss about the ongoing collaborations between SPIN and CERN groups and to identify new possible research themes which could be synergistically developed in the next future.

Transition metal ditellurides (TMDT) exhibit various physical phenomena originating from the strong spin-orbit coupling. In particular, it is known that Td phase bilayer WTe2 exhibits the non-linear Hall effect (NLH), which can occur in a time-reversal symmetric condition. However, due to a small difference in the electronegativities of tungsten/molybdenum and tellurium, it is difficult to synthesize uniform and clean few-layer WTe2 or MoTe2 single crystals via a common chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method.

In a recent paper just published in the journal SMALL, researchers from the CNR-SPIN and the University of Genoa show that micro-mechanical-systems made of (La,Sr)MnO3, a well-known magnetic oxide, have the potential to be employed as highly sensitive micromechanical resonators for detectors.
