"The Kaleidoscope of Physics" just published by World Scientific Publishing

Attilio Rigamonti (University of Pavia), Andrey Varlamov (CNR-SPIN) and Jacques Villain (Academy of Sciences of France) are the authors of the new book "The Kaleidoscope of Physics: From Soap Bubbles to Quantum Technologies” just published by World Scientific Publishing.

While providing an introduction to the physics which underlies several aspects of our daily lives, the book discusses even some of the most recent advances in modern disciplines like quantum technologies and superconductivity. The book is specially aimed at high school students but, more in general, it is suitable for anyone being interested in the physical laws which rule the world.

As commented by Giorgio Benedek (Member of the Lombard Institute Academy of Science and Letters and of the Italian Academy of Science "Dei Lincei") in his endorsement of the book:

The book of well-known physicists - Andrey Varlamov, Jacques Villain and Attilio Rigamonti - captivates from the very first chapter: the reader will learn why the sky is blue, the rivers are meandering, why the climate changes, what the tides are connected with ... The path of knowledge leads the authors from the beauties and revealed mysteries of nature to physics of everyday life. Over an aperitif, they ask questions about the secrets of champagne bubbles and wine tears, knowing the answers to which will help you pass for an experienced sommelier. The physical phenomena around ovens and ovens are endless, making pizza requires deep thought, not to mention pasta, where Italian and German philosophy collide. The physics of making good (or bad) coffee is very interesting, and you can't go wrong here. After a tour of the kitchen, the authors invite us into a strange quantum world: the quality of the text and the magnificence of the illustrations allow us to convey its aesthetics. Despite the fact that our senses are already sharpened by wine, cooking and good coffee, perhaps it is in the field of quantum physics that two cultures, once united, and then separated by Aristotelian constructions, merge again into world harmony…..  “
